Back in 1970, the Swedish hard rock scene had just taken its first deep
breath with the band November unveiling their riff-laden debut album, En
ny tid är här ("A New Time is Here" - a highly accurate statement).
Later the same year, another band started to take form. They started out
as a cover band, but were also highly influenced by the aforementioned
pioneers. The band was named UPPÅT VÄGGARNA (“Upon the Walls””, a
Swedish expression meaning “Outrageous” or “Absurd”), and in 1971, they
released their first and only 7" single, Jag hatar politik/Jag färdas,
proudly showing off their November influences.
Translated into English as “I Hate Politics” (another highly accurate
statement!), UPPÅT VÄGGARNA’s lone single was released on the
independent Efel label and has become quite the collectors item, both
for its historical value as well as the quality of the band’s
songwriting – moody, buzzing, brewed in the garage and just as
potent! Finally, after 51 years, Jag hatar politik is now reissued,
accompanied by two previously unknown and unreleased bonus tracks,
recorded later the same year. A true collectors item, now on 12" format
including the story of the band, hear righteous & raw hard rock
straight from the earliest Scandinavian soil!
