Finnish Goth Rock classic Käärmeet by Musta Paraati reissued on vinyl in November

Musta Paraati was born in 1981 at depths of Helsinki's legendary cultural center Lepakko, and got soon signed by Johanna Kustannus, who released both of their albums - the debut Peilitalossa (1983) and its successor Käärmeet (1984).

The Helsinki-based band was Finland’s hottest new act for a brief moment. Having just released Peilitalossa, a landmark album of post-punk gothic rock, they were being whisked around the country at such a pace that the musicians began jumping off the tour bus in the middle of the most intense acceleration of the band.

By the time Käärmeet was recorded, the bassist Panda Nikander was the only founding member left. Guitarist Saku Paasiniemi had joined Musta Paraati before the debut's recording sessions and the band was completed for the sophomore album by Sande Vettenranta (drums), Juha-Pekka ”Jesu” Hämäläinen (synth), and Jari ”Epe” Kronholm (vocals) known from Lama. Käärmeet was produced by Jimi Sumén and its sound was quite different compared to its predecessor. The album never received the same cult status as Peilitalossa, but remained as a sought after rarity, a fan favorite, and Musta Paraati's last studio album before they split up in 1985.

With almost a decade after the previous, quickly sold out Svart Records reissue, it's time to bring Käärmeet back on the market in late 2026. Available on Svart exclusive Turquoise/Pink/Black Splatter vinyl, limited Turquoise vinyl, and classic Black vinyl, Käärmeet is out on November 27, 2026. Comes with a 4-page insert featuring an interview in Finnish with Panda and Saku from 2017, lyrics, and photos.
